Crosscutting Concepts: A Potential Pathway to Meaningful Science Learning for All

Through the CCCs, the Framework and NGSS provide an important mechanism for attaining this vision: by 1) defining a series of progressively sophisticated CCCs that students are expected to master each grade-band, and 2) establishing a place for the use of CCCs explicitly in student performance expectations. Together, these documents provide an infrastructure to help ensure all students are supported in developing the kinds of reasoning that set them up for future success.
