Example Task:Whale Fall (used for PL)

This task was specifically designed to be used for professional learning as part of the 5D assessment: Making Aligned Science Tasks Equitable for Rural Students project. It demonstrates many features of high quality tasks and through facilitated analysis creates space to discuss opportunities for improvement, priorities, and tradeoffs.

The task was designed as a model of a 5th grade assessment connected to the Next Generation Science Storyline, WHY DO DEAD THINGS DISAPPEAR OVER TIME?, rather than a curriculum agnostic assessment to demonstrate what it means for assessments to be coherent from the students’ perspective.
